Julie Waage

Principal

I’ve been the Principal at Little since 2018, but I have also taught Social Studies, Language Arts, Reading, Career, and Technology Education. My favorite subject to teach was History and Government.

I grew up in Colorado, and attended elementary at Meeker and the UNC Lab School in Greeley. When I was little, I dreamed of being an actress, or a flight attendant, or a lawyer.

I have been with Jeffco since 2006, serving 6 schools ranging from Kindergarten to adults. I have a bachelor’s in Social Science: Secondary Education, a master’s of Education in Curriculum & Instruction: Reading and an Educational Specialist in Administrative Leadership & Policy Studies.

I love that I get to work with all students as the Principal, and I hope that they leave the school year knowing that they are loved and that they can truly do anything if they put their mind to it.

The best way to get in touch with me is through my secretary and email!

Apryl Thompson

Assistant Principal

I am proud to be an alumnus of the Pomona pipeline, a testament to my roots in the community. I pursued my undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado, where I deepened my understanding of education and literacy. Building on this foundation, I continued my education at Colorado Christian University, earning my graduate degree in a field that allowed me to delve deeper into my passion for literacy. Later, I pursued my Admin License at the University of Denver, preparing myself for a leadership role in education.

My journey in education has been diverse and enriching. I've had the privilege of working with students from kindergarten through sixth grade at several Jeffco schools, where I've had the opportunity to instill a love for reading and learning in young minds.

Additionally, I've served at the district level as an Elementary Literacy Coordinator, where I played a pivotal role in developing and implementing literacy initiatives to support student success across multiple schools.

Currently, I am honored to serve as the Assistant Principal at Little Elementary, where I continue to make a positive impact on the lives of students and educators alike.

Reading has always been my favorite subject. There's something magical about the power of stories to transport us to different worlds, spark our imaginations, and deepen our understanding of ourselves and others. I am passionate about sharing this love of reading with students and helping them develop the skills they need to become lifelong readers.

The best part of my job is growing people. Whether it's supporting students in their academic and personal growth, mentoring teachers to become effective educators, or collaborating with colleagues to create a positive school culture, I find fulfillment in helping others reach their full potential.

When I was a kid, my favorite subject in school was English. I loved to read and write, and pretend. I used to create stories and put on shows with my friends!

I got my bachelor’s degree from BYU in Humanities, and minored in Russian language. I spent a summer living in Russia as part of my studies.

If you are looking for me, you can find me in the office, but I do poke my head into classrooms or help with lunch/recess sometimes.

The best part of my job is getting to know our families and kiddos. I try hard to learn everyone’s names and to greet them with a smile. I hope that when people come to my office they know that they are cared about as individuals.

Attendance Secretary

My kids both attended Little, and I liked it so much, I started working here, too. I guess this makes sense, since I went to elementary school at Little, as well!

My favorite subject in school was Math, and when I was a little girl my favorite thing to do was going swimming.

I graduated from Pomona High School (Go Panthers!) and the University of Colorado in Boulder (Go Buffs!).

The best parts of my job are all of the amazing kids and my coworkers.Coming Soon

Desiree Fox

Health Aide

My educational journey has been diverse, having attended various schools, including periods of homeschooling. I've always been drawn to the healthcare field. However, it was when I began working in schools that I truly found my calling. Science and math have always been my favorite subjects, as they provide a framework for understanding the world and solving complex problems. The favorite part of my job as a health aide is undoubtedly the opportunity to problem-solve and provide assistance to sick children. Every day brings new challenges, and I take great satisfaction in using my skills and knowledge to address the health needs of students and ensure their well-being.

Monika Herrera

Family Engagement Liaison

We moved around a lot when I was a kid, and I went to at least 4 different elementary schools! My favorite subjects in school were Reading and Spelling and my favorite things to do were ride BMX bikes, roller skate, and swim.

I’m the Family Engagement Liaison at Little, and you can find me in the Lynx Link, the office, or out and about at family events.

My favorite thing about my job is learning the strengths, needs, and dreams of our students and families.

I hope that our students know that I am glad they are here, and I love the days we spend time together. I hope they remember that sometimes we have hard days and we can get through them together!
