Free full-day kindergarten started in Jeffco Public Schools in Fall, 2019.
Free full-day kindergarten was a campaign initiative from Governor Jared Polis and has been presented and signed as
House Bill 19-1262 – State Funding for Full-day Kindergarten. The
Polis Administration is committed to ensuring that free full-day kindergarten is available to every child in every community in Colorado.
What this means for Jeffco Families
Kindergarten is currently not a requirement in Colorado. However, research shows that starting students on their academic path in kindergarten (ages 5-6)
promotes children's enthusiasm, initiative, persistence, and engagement in learning.
Starting in August 2019, all full-day kindergarten programs in Jeffco will be free. For some families, this is a savings of almost $3000 a year.
