Library & Research
Book Checkout
Every class has a designated time to visit the library and check out books every week (see the schedule below). This time is primarily facilitated by the classroom teacher.
-
Students in Kindergarten learn the importance of using the library and can check out 1 book.
-
Students in grades 1-2 may check out 2 books at a time.
-
Students in grades 3-5 may check out 3 books at a time, not including research materials.
Books are checked out for two weeks at a time. After that time, they are marked as OVERDUE. Little Elementary does not charge any fines for overdue books, however, if the book is determined to be LOST, a replacement fee may be charged. Students who have chronic overdue books may be asked to leave their book selections at school, rather than taking them home.
It is our goal that ALL students have access to library materials regularly. We do not restrict student access, and we value student choice in their selections.
Interested in reading any of these great titles? All of these and more are available to check out.
Stop into the Lynx Link family center to glance at our titles.
Little Elementary Library Events
Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books is a district wide friendly competition between 5th grade students. Every year 10 books are chosen for groups of 3 students to read between October and February.
Students read and take notes on the 10 books.
Every February schools have a school-level competition, the top two teams form one team to go to the District battle between other elementary schools. There are usually more than 20 elementary schools that participate in this event. This is optional for students to be a part of but a very rewarding experience!
Pumpkin Extravaganza
Bringing book characters to life!
Each student has the opportunity to plan, create, design, and paint their pumpkin to look like the character that they chose at home. The only expectation was that it was a character from a book and there were no holes or punctures. The pumpkins are on display and students can vote for their favorite for each grade during the last week of October.
