Benefits and Resources

There are many valuable resources for families focused on the benefits of sleep and its vital role in the overall well-being and academic success of students.

Equal opportunity for academic success

By making the length of the school day the same for students at the same level, all students are receiving the same opportunity to learn. In the past, students at Jeffco schools received unequal amounts of instruction based on their school’s start and end times. In some cases, this added up to nearly a year difference in instructional time.

Student mental health

Research shows that healthy school start times result in improved student attendance, more students arriving at school on time, and improved graduation rates.

Healthcare professionals, mental health organizations, and sleep experts agree on the benefits of later start times for students. Check out these resources below:

Families can learn more information from these resources to better understand healthy sleep habits as well as helpful tips for children of all ages.
